Ben Horne is landscape photographer based in California who is known for his large format and film images from the south-west of the USA. Ben's creative mission revolves around crafting serene, structured depictions of nature. His preference for large format film photography stems from its intrinsic constraints, which impose a strong sense of discipline and provide guidance in his artistic process. The majority of his portfolio comprises 8x10 film captures, with a few earlier works shot on 4x5 film.
In late 2009, Ben embarked on a journey to document his adventures through video journals. As his audience has grown, he's dedicated himself to enhancing the quality and content of these videos. Ben's ideal is to transport viewers to the heart of his experiences, sharing what he witnessed and felt at each destination.
We talk about Ben's journey into full-time photography, his creative process and experiences with using large format cameras. We also cover some of the challenges and opportunities present in the photography industry, including the impact of AI and how it's changing people's perceptions of image authenticity along with Ben’s goal of educating photographers to respect nature when shooting and the role of photography in environmental advocacy along with lots more.
I hope you enjoy the show!
