Andrew Vukosav is an Australian aerial landscape photographer whose work offers a radically different perspective on the continent, moving beyond traditional outback clichés to reveal abstract, surreal, and often fragile interpretations of the land. Flying solo into some of the most remote regions of Australia, Andrew undertakes journeys that can last days or even weeks, photographing coastlines, deserts, salt pans, and geological formations from directly overhead.
With over four decades of experience as a commercial photographer and a lifelong passion for aviation, Andrew engineered a unique photographic system by mounting a 150MP medium format camera into the underbelly of his single-engine aircraft. In this setup, the entire plane effectively becomes the camera body, banking and pitching into position for each image. The result is a visual language that feels unframed and immersive, as if the viewer is suspended in open air rather than looking through a cockpit window.
Andrew’s work explores the tension between fluidity and permanence—estuaries swirl like clouds, salt lakes resemble glaciers, and deserts appear both vast and delicate. Beneath the visual abstraction lies a deeper intent: to document the environmental fragility of Australia’s landscapes and encourage dialogue around sustainability and conservation.
In this episode, Andrew Vukosav discusses combining engineering with photography, navigating extreme isolation, researching geology and Indigenous land significance, and how encounters with artists at the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards reshaped his creative direction. He also shares insights into international exhibitions, including DFAT-supported tours and climate-focused events, and why minimal digital manipulation remains central to his process.

Ep 241 - Ellen van den Doel on Finding Light in Nature
Wednesday Mar 11, 2026
Wednesday Mar 11, 2026
Ellen van den Doel is a dedicated landscape photographer from the Netherlands, based in Sommelsdijk on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee. Photography has been a central part of her life since 2009 and remains a source of daily inspiration, balance, and creative fulfilment. Living by the sea, Ellen is deeply drawn to coastal environments, where rhythm, light, and atmosphere shape much of her visual language.
Her work is best known for its calm, minimalist aesthetic and extensive use of long exposure techniques. By working with neutral density filters and natural light, Ellen creates images that express mood, tranquillity, and a strong sense of place. While technical knowledge plays an important role in her process, her core philosophy centres on enjoyment, curiosity, and truly experiencing the landscape rather than simply capturing it.
Before becoming a full-time photography educator, Ellen built a long career in teaching and sports. With a background in gymnastics and physiotherapy, she spent over 25 years working as a teacher and coach. This foundation in education naturally evolved into photography, where she now leads workshops, photo tours, and lectures across Europe.
Since 2015, Ellen has been guiding photographers in the field, and since 2020 she has been closely involved with the Dutch Photo Academy, organising trips and educational programs. Known for her approachable and down-to-earth teaching style, she focuses on helping photographers slow down, observe light more carefully, and develop a deeper personal connection with the landscape.
In this episode, Ellen discusses her creative journey, photographing in extreme environments like Iceland, balancing business with passion, and why teaching remains just as meaningful to her as making images.

Antoinette Koutsomihalis, better known as Toni Kouts, is an international award-winning fine art landscape photographer based in Sydney, Australia, whose work is deeply rooted in emotion, intuition, and lived experience. With a background in welfare and a lifelong artistic practice, Antoinette approaches photography not just as a visual medium, but as a space for reflection, healing, and connection.
Her photographic journey began in her aunt’s darkroom, where she first discovered the power of images to hold memory and feeling. Since then, photography has become both a creative language and a personal refuge—one shaped by observation, integrity, and emotional depth.
In this episode, Antoinette shares how photography became a tool for mental health, self-expression, and personal transformation. She opens up about the influence of her welfare work and her experience with breast cancer, and how both have profoundly informed the way she sees the natural world and creates art.
Antoinette speaks honestly about authenticity in photography, the pressure of social media, and her desire to create work that prioritises emotional resonance over external validation. She reflects on travel, stillness, and the importance of approaching landscapes with respect and presence.
This conversation explores photography as a quiet, intuitive practice—one that invites viewers not just to look, but to feel, breathe, and walk a little further into the deeper stories of the natural world.

Ep 239 - Michael Schultz – Photographing the Northern Lights & Wild Alaska
Wednesday Feb 25, 2026
Wednesday Feb 25, 2026
Michael Schultz is a wildlife, aurora, and landscape photographer based in Alaska, where vast wilderness and glowing winter skies shape both his life and his work. Featured by National Geographic, Michael is widely recognised for his expertise in photographing the Northern Lights and capturing remote landscapes that feel raw, quiet, and deeply immersive.
Originally drawn to the outdoors rather than photography, Michael found the camera became a way to preserve emotional experiences rather than simply record locations. His work is rooted in honest storytelling, natural light, and a strong connection to place—focusing on how landscapes feel, not just how they look.
In this episode, Michael shares his journey from avid outdoorsman to full-time professional photographer and workshop leader. He discusses the challenges and rewards of long exposure photography, especially in extreme Arctic conditions, and how photographing aurora requires patience, presence, and technical precision.
Michael also reflects on leading small-group photography workshops through Alaska and beyond, helping photographers slow down, connect with nature, and create meaningful images rather than chasing trends. He explores the impact of social media and AI on photography, and why authentic experiences and real human connections remain central to his creative philosophy.
This conversation offers insight into photographing some of the most spectacular natural phenomena on Earth, while staying grounded in purpose, presence, and storytelling.

Ep 238 - Matt Jackisch on Light, Nature & Consciousness
Wednesday Feb 18, 2026
Wednesday Feb 18, 2026
Over the past decade, Matt Jackisch has combined his love of travel, adventure, and storytelling through the language of landscape photography. He finds a unique satisfaction in uncovering visual harmony between geometry and light, describing the process as similar to solving a mathematical equation. His approach is grounded in exploration, patience, and precise timing, allowing him to interpret nature through moments of clarity and visual balance.
Time spent in remote environments has shaped Matt’s worldview, fostering a deep awareness of humanity’s relationship with the natural world. He recognises the fragility of Earth’s remaining original ecosystems and sees his work as a way of preserving their memory. Through his images, Matt seeks to express simplicity, order, reverence, and at times, raw power—qualities he believes reflect the true essence of nature’s design.
Matt is committed to honest visual storytelling. While he uses advanced digital techniques to overcome technical limitations, his priority remains the integrity of the scene and the authenticity of human perception. Photography, for him, is not about creating fantasy but revealing deeper layers of reality. Guided by mentors early in his journey, he now shares his knowledge through workshops and creative critiques. His photographic pursuits have taken him across the Himalayas, Patagonia, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Pakistan, Lebanon, and beyond. Alongside his creative life, Matt has worked as an Air Traffic Controller since 2004 and is currently based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Ep 237 - Conceptual Photography & Reimagining the Landscape with Helen Sear RA
Wednesday Feb 11, 2026
Wednesday Feb 11, 2026
Helen Sear is a Royal Academician and internationally recognised artist whose work explores the fragile co-existence between human, animal, and natural environments. Rooted in Magic Realism, Surrealism, and Conceptual Art, Helen’s practice challenges traditional ideas of photography, perception, and visual storytelling.
Originally trained in Fine Art at Reading University and the Slade School of Art (UCL), Helen first gained prominence in the late 1980s through mixed-media installation, performance, and video. Her photographic work reached international attention in the landmark British Council exhibition De-Composition: Constructed Photography in Britain, which toured Latin America and Eastern Europe in 1991.
Photography remains central to her practice, yet Helen uses it in unconventional ways—questioning fixed-point perspective and the dominance of the camera lens. Her work often incorporates painting, sculptural elements, and layered imagery to activate emotional and sensory responses beyond pure visual representation.
In what I felt was a captivating discussion, Helen reveals how her unique journey through fine art and alternative media led her to create immersive photographic works.
Helen shares insights on navigating the art world, the significance of exhibiting work, and the lifelong creative exploration driving her art.
We gains a rare insight into a career driven by experimentation, emotional depth, and a lifelong commitment to expanding what photography can be.

Deeply shaped by Australia’s outback, Adam Edwards approaches landscape photography with patience, resilience, and intention. The harsh, unpredictable environment of the outback has influenced not only how Adam photographs, but how he teaches—working creatively with imperfect conditions and finding meaning in every frame.
Adam has committed himself fully to photography, spending years refining both his fieldcraft and post-processing to create images that feel authentic and personal. In 2025, he took a major step by opening a gallery in Broken Hill. More than a showcase for his work, the gallery serves as a creative hub—celebrating the region, fostering connection, and supporting a growing photographic community in the outback.
In this conversation, Adam reflects on moving from passionate hobbyist to full-time professional, sharing stories of photographing extreme weather, managing a gallery, and embracing the realities of a creative business. He speaks openly about the importance of mindfulness, intentional image-making, and developing a personal style that reflects lived experience rather than trends.
Teaching and mentoring now sit at the heart of Adam’s practice. Through workshops and one-on-one guidance, he prioritises real feedback, human connection, and community—values he believes are increasingly vital in an online-driven world. For Adam, photography is about far more than the finished image; it’s about process, place, and the people who shape the journey.

Jon Norris is a seasoned landscape photographer whose approach blends technical precision with thoughtful artistic intent. First picking up a camera at 14, Jon’s creative path has been shaped by his background as a former aerospace engineer, giving him a deep understanding of both the mechanics and the meaning behind an image.
Based in Southern California, Jon spends much of his time exploring and photographing places like Joshua Tree National Park. His philosophy centres on slowing down, learning to truly see, and building the confidence to create images that feel personal rather than camera-driven. For Jon, landscape photography is not about chasing icons, but about developing consistency, intention, and a visual voice that reflects the photographer behind the lens.
In this conversation, Jon discusses balancing a demanding corporate career in aviation with a long-term passion for photography, eventually reshaping his priorities around creativity and personal fulfilment. He shares insights into teaching workshops, navigating increasing restrictions in protected landscapes, and why he chose to step away from social media to reconnect with authentic creative practice.
Jon also explores his growing interest in medium format film, the value of setting personal photographic goals, and the responsibility photographers carry to protect the wild places that inspire their work. His perspective is grounded, reflective, and refreshingly honest.

Wednesday Jan 21, 2026
Wednesday Jan 21, 2026
Robin Dodd is an accomplished British landscape photographer whose work is deeply rooted in woodlands, rivers, and mountain landscapes. Based in the Chiltern Hills, just outside London, Robin is drawn to places of quiet complexity—believing the British countryside offers some of the most rewarding and expressive landscapes in the world. His photography balances structure and spontaneity, revealing calm and clarity within seemingly chaotic natural environments.
Entirely self-taught, Robin’s relationship with photography began at 14, developing film in his bedroom. A formative period living in Cold War Berlin shaped his visual philosophy, teaching him how creative freedom can exist even within physical and conceptual constraints. That mindset continues to inform his approach to composition and visual storytelling today.
Robin’s work has received significant national recognition, including winning UK Landscape Photographer of the Year 2021 (Your View) and British Wildlife Photography Awards 2024 (Black & White), alongside multiple shortlistings and touring exhibitions with Forestry England. His photographs are widely exhibited across the UK and featured in major publications.
In this conversation, Robin explores the emotional pull of the landscape, the role of weather, and the importance of slowing down to truly see composition. He also discusses printmaking, mentoring, woodland workshops, and his recently published eBook, Order in the Chaos. His insights reflect a thoughtful, grounded practice shaped by patience, curiosity, and deep connection to place.

Vivien Francis is a Bournemouth-based photographer and video producer whose work blends landscape photography, cinematography, and thoughtful visual storytelling. Originally from Holland, Vivian’s move to the UK reshaped her creative direction, inspiring a deep connection with England’s varied and often understated landscapes. For her, creativity is instinctive—something as essential as breathing—and this is reflected in her ability to find rhythm, emotion, and movement in both stills and motion work.
In this conversation, Vivien reflects on her journey from art school to developing a multidisciplinary practice rooted in observation and intention. She discusses how cinematography influences her photographic eye, helping her see landscapes not as static scenes but as living environments shaped by light, weather, and time. Her work balances delicacy with impact, guided by a strong sense of narrative and visual flow.
Vivien also shares thoughtful perspectives on creative integrity, collaboration, and the evolving role of AI within photography and video. She speaks candidly about problem-solving in the field, the emotional highs and lows of early starts and imperfect conditions, and the importance of community in sustaining a creative career.
